Compelled to buy

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

Dear fellow souls, we find it interesting, at least those of us who have never previously been in a body form, that so many of you get such a delight out of purchasing things—for some it is even a compulsion. Once you have acquired these treasures you then find it difficult to get rid of the things you don’t need (the pack-rat syndrome), or you live among them, walking around them without noticing or interacting with them (the clutter-bug syndrome). Some among you would say that results from rampant consumerism.

As souls we need nothing. As humans you need whatever it takes for you to learn the lessons that you entered your body to tackle. Most of the needs and wants that you are consumed with are the result of your competing with those around you. Your egotism tells you that you are not significant unless you can be like those whom you admire. If “everyone” has a flat-screen television, an automobile no older than 3 years, and a large house, then anything that doesn’t measure up to those standards is, for you, insufficient. You feel cheated and worthless.

We are commenting on this aspect of your life to remind you that there is nothing wrong with any of these behaviors. Each experience that you have allows you to learn things about yourself and how you feel and react to each situation. Do take the time, though, to understand why you have certain compulsions. Don’t judge yourself against the lifestyle of others. Just evaluate if you are truly sensing the meaning of the experiences confronting you.

While you are gauging those experiences, live your life with love, light, and laughter.
