The election process

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

Hello, fellow souls. We have been observing your world and what you call the election process. Many countries have totally different ideas about getting input from their citizens. We see that in many places those in power wish to remain there even if their people are trying to move their country toward granting citizens human rights, or even ensuring democracy. Fidel Castro, who is 81 and in ill health, will run again with the government’s blessing, even though a good portion of the population wants change.

We notice that when results don’t go the way the party currently in power desires, there are frequently reprisals against the upstarts. Kenya broke down into ethnic cleansing, and Pakistan reverted to supporting religious beliefs by martial law and by eliminating the opposition. Leaders in other nations impose requirements allowing them to control who can vote, disenfranchising many by arbitrary edicts. This was seen in Georgia, Iran, and Nigeria. Some countries respond by postponing their elections, as in Lebanon where ten elections have been cancelled to date.

Now, you may be asking why the Masters are taking so much time to comment on these trends. We wish to remind you that no one can do anything to change another person unless that person chooses to change. You have no right to complain about the way your world is being run unless you express your opinion to others and try to implement change in the manner allowed by your country.

Peace be upon your planet and with you.

Dreaming pets

Q. Masters, you have said in the past that humans frequently leave their bodies at night and travel to other locations. I have watched my pets while they sleep, particularly my dogs, and they twitch, growl, and move their legs as if they are running. Do animals also leave their bodies during sleep?

A. Some animals do travel out of body at night. The soul that inhabits your pet retains memories of other experiences just like a human soul. They like to go and visit other places and other times.

Not all of the activity that you are noticing has to do with outside movement. Animals also dream just as you do. When they are dreaming they cannot tell that they are not awake so they react to the activity. It is very similar to humans walking, talking, or crying out during sleep. The more active animals are during their awake time the more active they are during their sleep time. As pets get older, and have difficulty moving, their sleep activity sometimes means that they are reliving the glories and triumphs from their prime, and their degenerating bodies don’t exist in those memories.

Watch what you wish for

Q. Masters, I always have the best intentions for doing things around the house and for reading a self-help book and working on my weight, but then I just seem to sit in front of the television or surf the internet or play games. What is wrong with me?

A. Your question reminds us of average people and their New Year’s resolutions. When you are at the beginning of something you always have the best of intentions and great expectations for the outcome. Your house needs to look just like the one in House Beautiful magazine. If you read that self-help book all your personal problems will dissolve on their own. You will be able to look like the most glamorous movie star after you take off a little weight. Right? Wrong!

What happens to derail your efforts? Reality sets in! You have always had the habit of wanting things to be easy, or to have others take responsibility for your life. You also bite off more than you can chew at one time and get discouraged when you are not immediately satisfied. It is easier to lounge back into your wasting time or feel-good adventures than it is to try to move forward.

When you begin any new endeavor you must be truthful with yourself. Your house will look better when you complete those needed changes but it is still your same old house. It will not expand or grow a swimming pool unless you arrange it. Learning new techniques from a self-help book will show you a way to change your life but it will not change it automatically. You must use the book’s principles to change your own behavior. Losing weight will change your size but not your physical features.

Every personal change or improvement takes time and effort. If you start off with too great a destination, you sabotage yourself from the start because you will know that it is impossible to leap the Grand Canyon, so watching a sitcom is more within your means. Make incremental goals and you will eventually reach your original destination.
